About the author

Born in Meseritz in the Province of Posen, Clara Caroline Schachne worked in Leipzig as a writer and journalist. She often used the pen name Clara Schott, taken from her mother's family name, and became known for fairy tales, children's books, and youth literature.

She also wrote essays, novellas, sketches, and journalism for newspapers and magazines. Her published work included both imaginative writing and social commentary, showing a career that moved comfortably between literature and public debate.

As a German Jewish author, she was persecuted under the Nazi regime. Her books were banned, and in September 1942 she was deported to Theresienstadt, where she died shortly afterward.
