About the author
Born in Dębica, Poland, Krzysztof J. Cios is a Polish-American computer scientist whose career has centered on machine learning, data mining, and biomedical informatics. He earned degrees in electrical engineering and computer science in Poland, later adding a D.Sc. and an M.B.A., building a background that spans both technical research and practical leadership.
Cios spent much of his academic career at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as professor and chair of computer science and directed the Data Mining and Biomedical Informatics Lab. His published work includes books as well as a large body of journal and conference research, with a strong focus on applying computing methods to medicine and biology.
He has also received major professional recognition, including being named an IEEE Fellow for contributions to data mining and machine learning.
