About the author

Born in Osceola Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, on July 11, 1843, Charles Tubbs studied at Union College and later at the University of Michigan's law department. He worked as a teacher, became a lawyer and farmer, and also served in public life, including two terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Alongside his legal and political work, he was deeply interested in history and genealogy. He wrote local and historical works including Early Elkland, Pennsylvania, 1836-1844: Reminiscences of Benson Tubbs and The Wyoming Military Establishment: A History of the Twenty-fourth Regiment of Connecticut Militia, and he also gathered extensive Tubbs family records that were preserved by later genealogical projects.

Tubbs died in January 1913. Though not a widely known literary figure, he remains a valuable author for listeners interested in Pennsylvania history, family research, and the kind of careful local storytelling that saves everyday lives from being forgotten.
