author
1822–1887
Best remembered for lively, illustrated retellings of Bible stories, this 19th-century writer aimed to make Scripture clear and welcoming for younger readers and families. His books were widely reprinted, suggesting they found a large audience well beyond his own lifetime.

by Charles Foster
An American religious writer and publisher based in Philadelphia, he is recorded in library catalogs as the author of The Story of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, The Story of the Gospel, First Steps for Little Feet in Gospel Paths, and New Lights on Old Paths.
His work was designed to present biblical material in simple, readable language, often with young readers especially in mind. Later editions of The Story of the Bible note very large print runs, which hints at how popular and durable these books became.
The surviving catalog records identify him as living from 1822 to 1887, but they offer only limited biographical detail beyond his publications and Philadelphia imprint. I couldn't confirm a reliable portrait from the sources I found, so no profile image is included.
