About the author

Chapman & Hall was founded in London in 1834 by Edward Chapman and William Hall. Over time it built a strong reputation as the publisher of writers including Charles Dickens, William Makepeace Thackeray, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Thomas Carlyle, and Anthony Trollope.

The firm is especially remembered for its long association with Dickens, whose books helped shape its public identity. In the 20th century, the business changed through mergers and ownership changes, and the Chapman & Hall name continued as a respected publishing imprint.

Today, Chapman & Hall/CRC is used mainly for science, mathematics, statistics, and computing titles rather than general literary publishing. Because this is a publisher and not an individual author, there is no single personal biography or portrait to provide.
