About the author

Born William Channing Arnold in 1869, he was an English journalist and writer, and the son of the poet and journalist Sir Edwin Arnold. He usually published as Channing Arnold rather than under his full first name.

He is most closely associated with travel writing and reportage. One of his best-known books, The American Egypt (1909), written with Frederick J. Tabor Frost, describes travels in Yucatán and reflects early twentieth-century English interest in archaeology, exploration, and the Maya world.

Available reference sources agree on his identity and career, but the death year in the request appears to be off by a little: the sources found for this overview list him as dying in 1938, not 1937. I also wasn’t able to confirm a suitable portrait image from the sources retrieved here, so no profile image is included.
