Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, on November 30, 1850, Cayetano Coll y Toste became known as a physician, historian, and writer whose work helped document the island’s cultural memory. He studied medicine in Spain and Paris before returning to Puerto Rico, bringing together scientific training and a deep interest in history.
Over the years, he wrote extensively about Puerto Rico’s past, including historical studies, biographical sketches, and folklore.
