About the author

Born Caroline Waterman in Bishop's Stortford on October 9, 1827, she later married the printer John Haddon in Bristol in 1853. Reliable library and reference sources identify Caroline Hadley as a pseudonym used by Caroline Haddon.

She wrote for young readers, with books including Woodside; or, Look, Listen, and Learn and Stories of Old, works remembered for their clear storytelling and their focus on moral and religious instruction. Her writing fits closely with a long Victorian tradition of children's books that aimed to shape character while keeping stories accessible to families.

Caroline Haddon died in 1899. A confirmed portrait image was not available from the sources I checked, so no profile image is included.
