A Barnabite priest whose calm, practical spiritual guidance has comforted readers for generations, he is best known for Light and Peace, a classic work on handling fear, doubt, and scruples.

by Carlo Giuseppe Quadrupani
Born in Induno in Lombardy in 1740, Carlo Giuseppe Quadrupani became a Barnabite preacher, spiritual director, and religious writer. Sources describe him as widely known in Italy for his preaching, and note that he served as superior of St. Alessandro's in Milan and later as provincial of the Barnabites of Lombardy.
He is remembered above all for Light and Peace, a devotional guide first written in Italian in the late 18th century and still widely read in English translation. The book offers short, steadying advice for people troubled by anxiety, doubt, or scrupulosity, which helps explain why it has remained his best-known work.
Quadrupani died in 1806 or 1807, depending on the source consulted. While the surviving biographical record is fairly brief, the lasting appeal of his writing suggests why his name continues to circulate wherever classic Catholic spiritual reading is valued.
