About the author

Born in Helsinki in 1781, he later moved to Sweden and built his career in the church, eventually serving as a priest and provost in Själevad. Alongside his clerical work, he became active in local civic life and is closely associated with the early development of Örnsköldsvik.

He is most often remembered as a writer of memoirs about the Finnish War of 1808–1809, in which he drew on personal experience as a regimental chaplain. Those recollections were noted for criticizing the conduct of the war while giving warm attention to the endurance and character of common Finnish soldiers.

Holm died in 1867, leaving behind a reputation that bridges church life, regional history, and war memoir. His work still interests readers looking for firsthand perspectives on the period and on the world of Sweden and Finland in the early nineteenth century.
