About the author

Cecilia Viets Jamison was a Canadian-born American writer, born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, in 1837 and later raised partly in Boston. She studied in private schools in Canada, New York, Boston, and Paris, and first hoped to become an artist before turning seriously to writing.

After her first marriage, she spent three years in Rome studying art. Sources note that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow encouraged her writing and supported the publication of Woven of Many Threads in 1872. She published under names including Mrs. C. V. Hamilton and Mrs. C. V. Jamison.

Jamison wrote novels, stories, and books for younger readers, including Toinette's Philip and Lady Jane. She died on April 11, 1909, in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
