by C. A. (Celestia Angenette) Bloss
Born in 1812, Celestia Angenette Bloss wrote under the name C. A. Bloss and published books including Heroines of the Crusades and Ancient History. Surviving library and public-domain records confirm her as an American author whose books were aimed at families, schools, and general readers.
She was also an educator. Archival records from Rochester connect her with the Clover Street Seminary in Brighton, New York, where she served as proprietor, and preserve a chronological chart created by her for the school. Those records, together with later historical references, show how closely her writing and teaching work were linked.
Bloss died in 1855. Although not widely known today, her books continued to circulate long after her death through later editions and digital libraries, suggesting that her clear, instructive style kept finding new readers.
