by Bruce Graeme
Born Graham Montague Jeffries in London on May 23, 1900, Bruce Graeme became one of the most productive British crime writers of the 20th century. He is generally remembered as a mystery novelist, but he also wrote under several other names, including David Graeme and Peter Bourne.
His best-known creation was Blackshirt, a stylish gentleman crook whose adventures helped make his name with crime readers. Alongside that series, he wrote many other mysteries and thrillers, building a body of work that ran to more than 100 novels.
Bruce Graeme died in London on May 14, 1982. His books still appeal to readers who enjoy vintage crime fiction with brisk plots, clever twists, and a touch of old-school charm.
