About the author

Born Alfred Johannes Olsen on April 12, 1884, he wrote under the pen name Bob Olsen and became known as an American science fiction writer during the early pulp-magazine era. He made his science fiction debut in 1927 in Amazing Stories with "The Four-Dimensional Roller-Press," the first in a run of imaginative tales built around fourth-dimensional ideas.

Beyond science fiction, he also wrote mystery stories with a scientific angle, which helped give his work a lively, idea-driven feel. Reference sources also describe him as having worked in fields including teaching and advertising, showing the varied background he brought to his fiction.

Olsen died on May 20, 1956. Today he is remembered as one of the energetic magazine writers who helped shape early American science fiction, especially through brisk, inventive stories that blended curiosity, humor, and speculative twists.
