About the author

Born in Hanover on May 15, 1784, Bernhard Hausmann came from a family involved in business and public life. He later became known as a manufacturer, senior building official, and transportation politician, taking part in civic and economic affairs in the Kingdom of Hanover.

Alongside that public career, he developed a lasting reputation as an art collector and connoisseur. His collection, especially its drawings and watercolors, focused on German Romantic and Biedermeier art and was gathered under the name Andenken meiner Zeitgenossen.

Hausmann died in Hanover on May 13, 1873. Although he was not primarily known as an author in the modern sense, his name remains connected with 19th-century cultural history because his collecting helped preserve works and artistic networks that might otherwise have been lost.
