About the author

Born in Helsingør on April 22, 1867, Palle Rosenkrantz was trained as a lawyer and worked in the Danish legal system before turning fully to writing. He was a baron by birth, but his career did not follow a quiet aristocratic path: after professional and financial setbacks in the 1890s, he began publishing fiction in earnest.

Rosenkrantz went on to become a prolific author, translator, and screenwriter. He is especially remembered for helping shape early Danish crime fiction, while also writing broadly across popular literature. His work reached beyond books into the world of early film, linking him to the first decades of Danish screen storytelling.

He died in Charlottenlund on October 1, 1941. Today he is still noted as an energetic, versatile figure in Danish literary culture, with a career that mixed aristocratic background, legal training, scandal, and a lasting contribution to popular fiction.
