About the author

Born Henry Bannister Merwin in Litchfield, Connecticut, in 1873, he built a varied career as a poet, magazine editor, novelist, film director, and screenwriter. He is especially remembered for his work during the silent era, when he wrote a large number of film scenarios and became associated with studios including Edison and the London Film Company.

Merwin also wrote fiction and other prose, showing the same storytelling instinct that shaped his screen work. Some sources note that he often collaborated with his wife, Anne Merwin, which adds another interesting dimension to his creative life.

He died in London on February 22, 1922. Though not widely known today, his career offers a glimpse of a moment when literature, magazines, and the new art of motion pictures were all beginning to overlap.
