by Balbino B. Nanong
Very little biographical information about Balbino B. Nanong could be confirmed from readily available reliable sources. What can be verified is that he wrote Hiwaga ng Pagibig, a Tagalog novel published in 1922 by Oriental Printing in Manila.
The book identifies him as being from Lukban, Tayabas and as a member of "Panulat Banahaw," a writers' group connected with the novel's first publication. Because so few confirmed details about his life are easy to trace today, he is remembered mainly through this surviving work and its place in early Tagalog print culture.
For modern readers, Nanong's importance lies in that rare survival. Hiwaga ng Pagibig helps preserve a strand of Filipino storytelling from the American colonial period, when Tagalog novels were reaching readers in affordable printed editions.
