About the author

Born in Toholampi, Finland, in 1869, Aukusti Alfred Oravala became known as both a Lutheran pastor and a writer. Finnish biographical sources describe him as a leading figure in the revivalist movement and note that he later received the title of honorary doctor of theology.

Oravala served the church for decades, including as vicar of Vihti from 1928 to 1950. Alongside his pastoral work, he published fiction and other writings, and his books continued to circulate widely enough to be preserved in major library catalogs and reissued in digital form.

He died in Helsinki in 1951. For listeners today, his writing offers a window into older Finnish religious and cultural life, where questions of conscience, community, and belief stand at the center of the story.
