About the author

Born in 1836, Augustus Hopkins Strong became one of the most influential Baptist thinkers of his era. He served as president of Rochester Theological Seminary for forty years, from 1872 to 1912, and spent much of his career teaching theology and guiding future ministers.

Strong is best known for his work in systematic theology. His writing aimed to explain Christian doctrine in a careful, organized way, and his books were widely used by students and pastors. Although he saw himself as theologically conservative, his thought developed over time as he wrestled with the intellectual and religious changes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

He died in 1921, leaving behind a body of work that remained important in Baptist and evangelical circles for many years. His legacy is tied both to his scholarship and to his role in helping American theology respond to a changing modern world.
