About the author

Born in Nurmes in 1869, Arvo E. Korhonen was a Finnish secondary-school teacher and writer. He studied at the University of Helsinki, graduating with degrees in philosophy, and went on to teach in Sortavala, Rauma, and later at the Finnish Lyceum in Viipuri, where he worked for decades before retiring in 1935.

Korhonen is best known for Veneellä poikki Suomenniemen: seikkailuja Pohjanmaan vesillä ja saloilla, first published in 1895 under the pen name Arvo K. The book grew out of a real summer journey he made with two companions, traveling by boat through the rivers, lakes, and wild country of northern Finland.

Alongside his teaching and literary work, he also took part in editorial projects, including publications connected with choral music and the Karelian Kennel Club. He died in Rauma in 1940.
