About the author

Born in Burton upon Trent in 1880, Arthur Mayger Hind became one of Britain’s leading authorities on prints and drawings. He studied at the City of London School and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, then built his career at the British Museum, where he specialized in old master prints.

Hind is especially associated with the Museum’s Department of Prints and Drawings, which he eventually led as Keeper before retiring in 1945. He often published as Arthur M. Hind or A. M. Hind, and his books and catalogues focused on engraving, etching, and the graphic work of major European artists.

For audiobook listeners and general readers, Hind is notable for writing with both expertise and a strong sense of visual history. His studies of printmaking, including work on Rembrandt and the history of engraving, remain part of the long tradition of art writing that made museum scholarship accessible beyond the gallery walls.
