About the author

Born in Burton upon Trent on August 26, 1880, he became a British art historian and curator best known for his deep knowledge of old master prints. He usually published as Arthur M. Hind or A. M. Hind, and his writing focused on European engravings, etchings, and drawings.

He spent much of his career at the British Museum, where he served as Keeper of the Department of Prints and Drawings until retiring in 1945. Alongside his museum work, he wrote important scholarly books and catalogues that helped establish print history as a serious field of study.

Hind died in Henley-on-Thames on May 22, 1957. Though not a household name today, he remains an influential figure for anyone interested in the history of prints, collecting, and the careful study of works on paper.
