About the author

Born in 1908, Arthur G. Stangland was an American writer who worked in science fiction during the early and mid-20th century. Archival records from the University of Oregon describe him and his wife, writer Artie Stangland (also known as Artie Appleton), as a married pair of writers who lived in Astoria, Oregon.

Those same records note that he wrote science fiction stories published in various popular magazines. Surviving bibliographic records and public-domain editions connect his name with works including The House from Nowhere and The Black Tide, which helped preserve his fiction for later readers.

Stangland died in 1990. While he is not among the most famous names in classic science fiction, his work reflects the lively magazine culture that helped shape the genre for generations of readers.
