About the author

Born in 1865, Arthur Edward Copping built his career as a British journalist and author. A local history account describes him as a well-known writer, journalist, and traveler who spent 22 years working for the Daily News, a background that helps explain the factual, on-the-ground quality of much of his writing.

Copping wrote across several kinds of nonfiction, especially travel and social observation. His books included A Journalist in the Holy Land and The Golden Land, and Project Gutenberg also lists Canada To-day and To-morrow, showing his interest in places, migration, and everyday life across the wider world.

He is also remembered for writing about the First World War. Works such as Souls in Khaki show him turning his reporter's eye toward the experiences, beliefs, and courage of soldiers, making his writing a mix of documentation and human portraiture. He died in 1941.
