About the author

A 19th-century French man of letters, Armand Gasté is remembered for historical and literary studies rooted in Normandy. His name is closely tied to Les drames liturgiques de la cathédrale de Rouen (1893), a study of early religious drama in France, and to research on popular uprisings in Basse-Normandie during the 15th century.

He also worked as an editor of earlier French texts, preparing editions connected with Bossuet as well as Le Livre des chants nouveaux de Vaudevire. Taken together, these works suggest a writer deeply interested in the meeting point of literature, history, religion, and regional tradition.

Available catalog records identify him as Armand Gasté (1838–1902). I could confirm several of his published works, but I did not find a reliably verifiable portrait image to use here.
