About the author

The Ministry of Agriculture in Argentina was first established in 1898 during the presidency of Julio Argentino Roca. Over time, it was reorganized several times, sometimes operating as a full ministry and sometimes as a lower-ranking secretariat, as different governments reshaped the state.

In its later form, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries was responsible for policies related to farming, ranching, fisheries, production, trade, and health regulation in those sectors. It was based in Buenos Aires and played an important role in one of the country's most influential areas of economic life.

Its name and rank changed repeatedly across the 20th and 21st centuries, including periods as the Ministry of Agroindustry and later as a secretariat under the Ministry of Economy. Even with those changes, the institution remained closely tied to Argentina's identity as a major agricultural producer.
