About the author
Born in São Pedro do Sul in 1879, this Portuguese poet began publishing while still very young. He studied in Viseu, later moved to Lisbon, and also worked as a journalist early in his career.
He is best known as António Correia de Oliveira, often written in Portuguese sources as António Corrêa d’Oliveira. Over a long career, he published poetry, drama, and prose, and became a prominent literary figure in Portugal in the first half of the 20th century.
He died in 1960 in Belinho, Esposende. Portuguese sources note that he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature multiple times, reflecting the reach and reputation of his work during his lifetime.
