Born in Tampere on September 27, 1831, Anton Wilhelm Lindgren went on to become a Finnish school lecturer as well as a writer, editor, and publisher. Sources also note that he completed his matriculation examination in 1850 and later spent much of his career in education.
Lindgren is especially known today for Torpan tyttö, a two-part work that helped preserve scenes of ordinary Finnish life in the late 19th century. His writing has remained accessible through public-domain editions, which has helped keep his name alive for modern readers.
He died in Kuopio on December 3, 1901. I couldn’t confirm a suitable portrait image from the available page images, so no profile photo is included here.
