Born in Helsinki on January 4, 1875, Anni Swan was a Finnish author, editor, and translator. She wrote a number of books for children and young readers, becoming one of the best-known early figures in Finnish juvenile literature.
Alongside her fiction, she edited magazines for young audiences and translated literature into Finnish. Her work reached readers in several ways, not only through her own stories but also through the books and publications she helped bring to them.
She later used the surname Manninen after her marriage, but she is still widely known as Anni Swan. She died in Helsinki on March 24, 1958, and her writing remains an important part of Finland's literary heritage for younger readers.
