Andrew Murray

Born in Graaff-Reinet, South Africa, in 1828, Andrew Murray became one of the best-known Christian devotional writers of his era. He trained in Scotland and the Netherlands, then returned to South Africa to serve as a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church.

Alongside his preaching and pastoral work, he was active in education, missions, and church renewal. He is especially remembered for clear, earnest books that encouraged prayer, surrender, and a closer daily walk with God, and his writing continued to circulate widely long after his death in 1917.
