About the author

Andrew A. Anderson is a professor emeritus of Spanish at the University of Virginia. He earned his B.A., M.A., and D.Phil. from Oxford University, and before joining Virginia he taught at Oxford and the University of Michigan.

His research focuses on later nineteenth- and twentieth-century Spanish literature, with particular attention to poetry, modernism, and the literary culture of Spain between the wars. He is widely recognized as a specialist on Federico García Lorca and has edited a number of scholarly editions of Lorca's writings.

Alongside his editorial work, Anderson has written extensively on Spanish literary history and cultural life. His published work includes studies of Lorca as well as books on Madrid's artistic and literary scene, making him a valued guide for readers interested in modern Spanish letters.
