About the author

Born in Port Adelaide in 1876, Amy Eleanor Mack became a versatile Australian writer, journalist, and editor. She wrote for children and adults, and her best-known books include Bushland Stories and Scribbling Sue. Alongside her literary work, she was also active in journalism and public life.

Mack worked on the Sydney Morning Herald's women's page and later spent time in London, where she worked in publicity roles during World War I before returning to Australia. Her career shows how comfortably she moved between newspapers, magazines, and books, always writing in a clear, approachable style.

She was part of a notably literary family and remained connected to Australian cultural life throughout her career. She died in Sydney in 1939, but her writing still offers a vivid glimpse of Australian childhood, nature, and reading tastes in her era.
