About the author

Born Pedro Bonifacio Palacios on May 13, 1854, in Argentina, he became widely known by the name Almafuerte. He worked as a teacher as well as a writer, and his reputation grew through poems marked by passion, defiance, and concern for ordinary people.

Almafuerte is remembered as one of the distinctive poetic voices of Argentina in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His writing often carries a forceful moral tone, with language that can be intense, direct, and encouraging in the face of suffering.

He died on February 28, 1917. Even more than a century later, Almafuerte remains associated with resilience, emotional intensity, and a belief in the dignity of those who struggle.
