About the author

Born in 1856, Alfred Trübner Nutt was a British publisher, writer, and scholar of folklore whose work centered especially on Celtic mythology and Arthurian tradition. He was part of the publishing firm founded by his family and became well known for supporting serious scholarship in folklore, anthropology, and literary history.

Alongside his publishing work, he wrote and edited studies on legend, myth, and early literature. He was closely associated with the Folklore Society, and his name remains linked with the revival of interest in Celtic subjects at the turn of the twentieth century.

Nutt died in 1910. Remembered both as a publisher and as a scholar in his own right, he stands out as someone who helped preserve older stories while making them accessible to new readers.
