Born on November 11, 1824, Alfred Seymour was a British Liberal politician from a prominent family based at Knoyle House in East Knoyle, Wiltshire, and Trent in Dorset. He was the son of Henry Seymour and Jane Hopkinson, and the brother of Henry Danby Seymour.

He entered Parliament in January 1863 as MP for Totnes and held the seat until the constituency was disenfranchised in 1868. In 1869 he returned to the House of Commons as MP for Salisbury, where he campaigned in support of William Gladstone's policies, and remained in office until his defeat at the 1874 general election. He also served as a Justice of the Peace.

In 1866, he married Isabella Leighton, the daughter of Sir Baldwyn Leighton, 8th Baronet, and the widow of MP Beriah Botfield. They had one daughter, Jane Margaret Seymour. Alfred Seymour died on March 15, 1888.
