About the author

Born in 1847, Albert Franklin Blaisdell was an American physician, educator, and author whose career became closely tied to educational publishing. Sources on his life describe him as a Dartmouth graduate who later earned a medical degree from Harvard, though he became especially well known for writing and editing textbooks rather than for medical practice.

He is often remembered for Our Bodies and How We Live (1889), a schoolbook that presented health and anatomy in a direct, accessible way for young readers. Family and library sources also credit him with a large body of educational work, including many books and revised editions, showing how central he was to textbook writing during his era.

In later life, Blaisdell lived in Winchester, Massachusetts, and also spent significant time on family history research. He died in 1927, leaving behind a reputation as a careful explainer who brought science, history, and other subjects within easy reach of students.
