A playful, unpredictable force in contemporary Argentine literature, this prolific writer is known for short books that bend reality, twist genre, and keep readers slightly off balance in the best way.
Born in Coronel Pringles, Buenos Aires Province, in 1949, César Aira is an Argentine writer and translator whose work has become a major presence in contemporary Latin American literature. He moved to Buenos Aires as a young man and has published more than a hundred books, including novels, stories, and essays.
Aira is especially known for his unusual way of writing: brief, fast-moving books filled with sudden shifts, surreal turns, and inventive ideas. His fiction often blends the everyday with the bizarre, which has made him a favorite among readers looking for something original and hard to predict.
Alongside his fiction, he has also worked as a translator and has taught and lectured on literature in Argentina. His wide-ranging body of work and singular style have made him one of the most distinctive Spanish-language authors of his generation.
