Aino Salo

Aino Sofia Salo (1897–1992) was a Finnish teacher, school principal, and author of children’s and young adult literature. She was born in Lappeenranta, finished secondary school in 1917, and completed a degree in 1929.

Alongside her writing, she worked in education for many years. She taught Finnish language and literature at the girls’ lyceum in Kotka and later served as the school’s principal. That background helps explain the steady, observant tone often associated with her writing for younger readers.

Salo is remembered especially as a writer for children and youth. Public library and authority records also identify her as a teacher and principal, underscoring how closely her literary work was connected to her lifelong work with students.
