Agnes Rothery

Born Agnes Edwards Pratt and writing as Agnes Rothery, she was an American author educated at Wellesley College, where she graduated in 1909. She became known mainly for travel books, but her work reached across several genres, including novels and books on architecture and local history.

Her writing reflects a broad curiosity about places and people. Among her published works are travel books on Central America, Scandinavia, and South America, along with titles connected to Virginia and family history. That mix gives her books an appealing blend of movement, observation, and storytelling.

She later lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, and died in 1954. Archival records note that her papers are held at the University of Virginia, a reminder of the lasting interest in her life and work.
