About the author

Born in Karlsruhe on January 13, 1837, Adolf Hausrath was a German Protestant theologian, church historian, and writer. He studied at Jena, Göttingen, Berlin, and Heidelberg, then built his academic career at Heidelberg, where he became a lecturer and later a professor.

Hausrath is remembered for work on the New Testament and early Christianity, and for writing from within the broad influence of the Tübingen school. Alongside his scholarly books, he also published historical novels and tales under the pseudonym George Taylor, showing a more literary side that reached beyond the university.

He died in Heidelberg on August 2, 1909. Today he stands out as a figure who combined theological scholarship with an accessible gift for historical storytelling.
