These Victorian sisters wrote lively historical fiction and children's stories, usually publishing together as M. and C. Lee. Their books often mix adventure, domestic life, and a strong sense of the past.

Catherine Harriet Lee (1847-1914) was an English writer who usually worked in partnership with her sister Mary Susanna Lee (1846-1908). Together they published as M. and C. Lee or Mary and Catherine Lee, and modern library records often list them simply as authors active from 1867 to 1892.
Their best-known work includes The Oak Staircase, a historical tale set in the time of James II. Records for their other books show that they wrote mainly for younger readers, especially children's fiction with historical settings, and that they continued publishing together into the 1890s.
Reliable sources found here identify the sisters and their dates, but I did not find a confirmed portrait photograph of Catherine Lee herself. The available images on the main reference page were book-related illustrations rather than a clear author portrait.
