About the author

Born in Maassluis in 1837, Abraham Kuyper built an unusually wide public career. He served as a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church, wrote extensively as a journalist and theologian, and became a leading voice in Dutch public life.

Kuyper helped found the Anti-Revolutionary Party and later served as prime minister of the Netherlands from 1901 to 1905. He also played a major role in church reform and helped establish the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, reflecting his conviction that Christian belief should engage every part of society.

He died in The Hague in 1920, but his influence has lasted through his sermons, political writing, and theological works. He is especially remembered for a broad, energetic vision of Christianity that connected worship, learning, public service, and everyday life.
