About the author

Born in Laihia on June 21, 1878, and dead in Lehtimäki on June 22, 1932, Aaro Juho Vallinmäki was a Finnish cantor, writer, businessman, and collector of folk poetry.

He was born Aaro Juho Filander and later took the surname Vallinmäki. Sources also list pen names including Mikko Meikäläinen. He came from a notable literary family: his older brother Aleksander Filander was better known as Santeri Alkio.

Vallinmäki is credited with around 30 works in library records, and his writing has remained accessible through collections such as Project Gutenberg. The surviving reference material on him is fairly brief, but it consistently presents him as a versatile cultural figure whose work connected literature, music, and Finnish folk tradition.
