About the author

Born in Laihia on June 21, 1878, Aaro Juho Vallinmäki was a Finnish cantor, writer, and businessman. He was born into the Filander family and was the younger brother of Aleksander Filander, better known as Santeri Alkio. Later in life he used the surname Vallinmäki, and he married Miina Sunell in 1907.

Vallinmäki is remembered for humorous writing, short plays, monologues, and light entertainment pieces. Among his known works are Juttuja, Viisi pilaa, Kylänkellot, and Miehell' on miehen luonto. His books were published mainly in the early 1900s, and several were reprinted, suggesting they found a steady audience.

He also had a practical side beyond literature: sources describe him as a businessman, and several later works were issued by Vallinmäen kirjakauppa in Lehtimäki, linking his writing to local bookselling and community life. He died in Lehtimäki on June 22, 1932.
