About the author

Andrew Price Morgan was an American botanist and mycologist born in 1836 in Ohio. He is best known for studying the flora of the Miami Valley and for giving special attention to fungi and slime molds, building a reputation through detailed local fieldwork and publication.

Much of his career was spent in education in Dayton, while his scientific work grew alongside it. Among the works associated with him are studies of the Miami Valley's flora and myxomycetes, reflecting a patient, descriptive style that helped document the natural history of his region.

The record around his death year is not fully consistent across easy-to-find sources: some library and catalog records for his writings use 1906, while biographical sources describe him as dying in 1907. Because of that mismatch, it is safest to say that he was active into the early 20th century and is remembered chiefly for his contributions to American botany and mycology.
