The Missing Link in Modern Spiritualism

About the author

Known as Ann Leah Underhill, she was the eldest of the Fox sisters, the family closely linked with the rise of modern Spiritualism in the United States. In the late 1840s, the sisters' claims of hearing and answering mysterious rappings in western New York drew wide public attention and helped spark a movement that spread far beyond their home.

She later wrote The Missing Link in Modern Spiritualism (1885), a book that reflects her own understanding of the movement and the events around the Fox family. Today, she is remembered both as an author and as one of the central figures in a remarkable and much-debated chapter of American religious and cultural history.
