Anna Cornelia Kuiper, better known by the pen name A.C. Kuiper, was born in Zwolle on August 30, 1860, and died in Zeist on February 13, 1934. She was a Dutch children’s author and translator, and she also qualified in English, later working as a teacher of the language.
Her writing is closely associated with children’s and girls’ books, a field in which she became a familiar name in Dutch literature. Alongside her original work, she translated books into Dutch, helping young readers discover stories from beyond the Netherlands.
That mix of teaching, writing, and translating gives her work a practical charm: she wrote for readers she understood well, and she helped open up a wider world of reading for them.
