About the author

Born in 1878, Alfred Browning Stanley Tennyson came from the well-known Tennyson family and was the grandson of Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Genealogical records also describe him as the son of Lionel Tennyson and Eleanor Bertha Mary Locker, and note that he was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Oxford.

He wrote under the name A. B. S. Tennyson and is best remembered for works such as A Portentous History and A Legend of Old Persia and Other Poems. His surviving books suggest a writer comfortable moving between fiction and verse, with an interest in literary style and historical atmosphere.

Tennyson died in 1952. While he never became as widely known as the most celebrated members of his family, his work remains part of the long literary story surrounding the Tennyson name and continues to be preserved in public-domain and library collections.
