by A. (Augustin) Auffray
Born in Nantes on April 8, 1881, and deceased in Lausanne on July 29, 1955, Augustin Auffray was a French Salesian priest and man of letters. He wrote extensively on religious subjects and is especially associated with books about Saint John Bosco and the Salesian world.
His work combined biography, history, and spiritual storytelling. Among his recognized titles are En pleine brousse équatoriale, on the Salesian mission in Katanga, and Le bienheureux Don Bosco, both of which received prizes from the Académie française.
Auffray is remembered as an author who helped popularize the lives of Catholic figures for a broad readership. His writing seems to have been shaped by both his religious vocation and a strong interest in education, missionary work, and the practical example of saints.
