About the author

Born in Arnhem on January 10, 1878, August Adriaan Pulle became one of the Netherlands' notable botanists. He taught at Utrecht University, where he served as professor of botany and plant geography and also directed the Botanical Museum and Herbarium.

Pulle is especially remembered for his major contributions to the study of the flora of Suriname and New Guinea. Through expeditions and careful taxonomic work, he helped build a clearer picture of tropical plant life and gave later researchers a strong foundation to build on.

He died in Utrecht on February 28, 1955. Today, his name remains closely linked with botanical exploration and the scientific description of plants from regions that were still being documented in detail during his lifetime.
