Description

A rainy November afternoon finds a modest concert hall in London humming with quiet anticipation. Two young country sisters, Winifred and Celia, sit near the front, their eyes fixed on the stage as a modest charity recital unfolds. The atmosphere is tinged with the soft glow of dim lights and the hush of fog outside, while murmurs of polite conversation hint at the modest expectations of the season.

The sisters are drawn to a newcomer, Hertha Norreys, whose presence seems to captivate them beyond the music itself. As the first notes of a familiar ballad drift through the room, Winifried feels an unexpected connection, sensing that this performance may linger in her thoughts long after the final chord. The story gently explores the stir of youthful curiosity, the quiet yearning for something beyond ordinary life, and the subtle ways a single song can echo in the heart.
